Rail communication between Mymensingh and Chattogram has been suspended after three coaches of the Bijoy Express derailed following a reported signalling error in Gouripur.
The incident occurred around 10:45pm on Wednesday near the outer signal area of Gouripur Station, rail officials said.
No casualties were reported immediately.
Mymensingh Railway Police chief Akhtar Hossain said the Bijoy Express had departed Gouripur for Chattogram when the rear three coaches suddenly became detached and left the tracks near the outer signal.
The remaining coaches also became separated from the locomotive, disrupting train movement on the route, he said.
Golam Mawla, an RNB official at Mymensingh Station, said the incident was caused by a fault in the computer-based relay interlocking system, which failed to clear the line.
Railway workers rushed to the scene and began recovery operations, he added.
