Authorities say the smoke seen at Dhaka’s Green Life Hospital is due to an “electrical glitch”, but there has been no major damage.

Fire Service personnel went to the hospital on Green Road and found no active fire, said Anwar Islam, an official of the emergency service.

Two units from Mohammadpur Fire Station went to the hospital after the smoke was noticed around 12:15pm on Wednesday.

Anwar said, "There was some smoke due to a fault in the electrical wiring on the sixth and seventh floors of the hospital's 15-storey building, but there was no major problem. The Fire Service did not have to do any work."

Although there was no major danger, the smoke sparked panic among some patients and their families. The situation has since calmed.

Authorities said the incident did not disrupt the normal operations of the hospital.
