Two unidentified bodies found on footpaths near National Eidgah in Dhaka

Police have recovered the bodies of two unidentified men from separate footpaths in the National Eidgah area of Dhaka.

Shahbagh Police Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan said officers recovered the bodies after being alerted shortly after noon on Saturday.

They were later sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

One of the men was estimated to be around 65 years old and the other around 45.

Toufiq said one body was found under a banyan tree on the footpath opposite the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, north of the main gate of the National Eidgah.

The other was found beside a water pump near the Supreme Court, opposite the Education Building.

“The process of identifying the dead is under way, and the CID forensic team has been informed,” Toufiq said.

Police believe both men may have been homeless and died from illness.

However, Toufiq said the exact causes of death would be known once the post-mortem reports were available.

The identities of the two men had not been established at the time of filing.
