A fire has erupted at Khulna City Medical College Hospital, with 12 units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence working to bring the blaze under control.
The fire sparked at the hospital in the Moilapota intersection of the city’s Sonadanga Thana around 9:35pm on Thursday, according to the officer-on-duty at the Fire Service’s Khulna Station.
The blaze broke out on the ground floor of the 17-storey building, the Fire Service said.
Witnesses say the fire has spread to upper floors of the building. Many patients and their families fled the hospital in panic as the smoke appeared.
Police and personnel from other law-enforcing agencies are at the scene.
The cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed.
