US Ambassador to India Gor greets Trivedi on joining Dhaka mission

Trivedi begins his Dhaka assignment by presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has congratulated Dinesh Trivedi on formally assuming office as the India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh.

In his official X handle on Thursday, Gor wrote: “Wishing High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi all the very best as he assumes his important role as India’s new high commissioner to Bangladesh.

“As the US special envoy for South and Central Asia, I look forward to working closely with him.”

Trivedi began his Dhaka assignment by presenting his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the Bangabhaban earlier in the day.

This comes at a crucial turning point for mending bilateral ties between New Delhi and Dhaka which had worsened after the ouster of the Awami League government in August 2024.

An official from the president's office said the diplomat received a ceremonial guard of honour at the presidential palace in the afternoon before heading in to present his diplomatic papers in line with established state traditions.
