Former BNP ward leader shot at Dhaka’s Panthapath

The bullet pierced the palm of his left hand

A shoe trader and former joint general secretary of BNP’s Ward 16 unit has been shot in Dhaka’s Panthapath.

Shafiqul Rahman, 55, a trader at the floating shoe market near Bashundhara City Complex, was shot around 9:30pm on Sunday.

Police could not immediately identify the assailants.

Shafiqul was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at 11pm, accompanied by an individual named Shah Poran, who provided initial details of the injury.

Police Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the hospital outpost, confirmed that Shafiqul is receiving treatment in the emergency department after being shot in the palm of his left hand.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.
