Army chief Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman has travelled to South Sudan and Abyei on a five-day official visit.
The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said in a statement on Sunday that he left Dhaka on Saturday.
During the visit, Gen Waker will inspect Bangladeshi contingents deployed in United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Abyei, according to the statement.
He will also pay courtesy calls on state and mission-related authorities in both locations and hold discussions with them, it said.
