Five people have been killed after a dump truck struck a battery-powered van carrying vegetables in Naogaon's Mohadevpur Upazila.

The crash occurred around 5am on Saturday at the Patkathi junction on the Naogaon–Patnitala road, according to Naogaon Superintendent of Police Tarikul Islam.

Police said two of the victims were identified at the scene as Bipul Pahan, 25, and Sanju Rao, 45, both vegetable vendors from the Nurpur area.

Mohadevpur Police Station chief (OC) Abdul Latif said the dump truck was travelling from Mohadevpur towards Patnitala when it lost control and slammed into the van.

Two people died at the scene, while three others were taken in critical condition to Mohadevpur Upazila Health Complex. Two of them later died at the hospital.

The remaining injured person was referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital but died on the way, police said.
