Rain and thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds are likely to greet the first day of the Bengali New Year in parts of Bangladesh, a forecast by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said.

Meteorologist Omar Faruq told bdnews24.com on Sunday that rain and strong wind, known locally as nor’wester, are expected at this time of year.

“There is a possibility of rain in three districts on Monday and Tuesday, while the weather will remain mainly dry elsewhere,” he said.

On Tuesday, the first day of the Bangla calendar, also called Pahela Baishakh, showers are expected in parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as several locations in Cumilla and Brahmanbaria.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Monday.

On Tuesday, daytime temperatures may drop slightly, while night temperatures are projected to increase.

The Met Office recorded the country's highest temperature of 35.8°C in Jashore over the last 24 hours.

The five-day forecast indicates that temporary gusty winds and rain or thundershowers with lightning may occur in parts of Sylhet on Wednesday.

On Thursday, similar weather patterns are expected in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet.
