The interim government has ordered strong legal measures against flash processions and illegal gatherings following a high-level meeting.

The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Sunday after the meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna.

He said the meeting decided to step up monitoring of such activities and take stern action against those behind them.

Local administrations have been instructed to take more proactive action.

In the spirit of the July Uprising, the meeting stressed the importance of maintaining political unity and amicable relations among parties to avoid any security slip-ups.

The chief advisor warned that attempts may be made to create unrest during the upcoming Durga Puja, and directed early preparations to ensure law and order following the format from last year.

The religious affairs ministry was asked to hold talks with faith-based groups to uphold communal harmony, Shafiqul said.

The meeting also decided to enhance coordination among security forces for continuous monitoring and to keep the administration prepared for any situation.

According to his press aide, the chief advisor instructed full cooperation to ensure a peaceful, festive Dhaka University Central Students’ Union election.

The meeting observed that “defeated fascist forces” are becoming desperate as the election nears and trials over July killings move forward, calling it a matter of “national security”.

It was decided that no one would be spared over security issues, with emphasis on unity among all political parties in the national interest.
