The residences of two Awami League leaders have been vandalised and torched in Jhenaidah following the death of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman bin Hadi.

The attacks occurred in the early hours of Friday in Jhenaidah town’s Damdo and Hatkhola, according to Bellal Hossain, an additional police superintendent.

A mob first attacked the residence of Kanak Kanti Das, a former chairman of the district council, at Damdo, he said.

Kanak was also a former vice-president of Awami League’s local chapter, according to police.

The attackers took furniture from Kanak's residence out on the street and then set it on fire.

The next attack was launched on the house of Mizanur Rahman Masum, who was president of the municipality chapter of the Awami League.

The Army and Rapid Action Battalion later brought the situation under control.
