Police constable arrested in Chattogram with 10,000 yaba pills

He was on his way to Chattogram posting from Cox’s Bazar when stopped, police say

Police say they have arrested a constable with 10,000 yaba pills during a checkpoint search in Chattogram’s Lohagara Upazila.

The arrest took place on Wednesday morning in front of the Chunati Forest Department Range Office along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway, said Lohagara Police chief (OC) Arifur Rahman.

The arrestee, identified as Monirul Islam, is currently posted in the Special Branch (SB) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), under the Kotwali Division. He is originally from Cox’s Bazar.

OC Arifur told bdnews24.com that Monirul was riding a motorcycle from Cox’s Bazar towards Chattogram when he was stopped at a checkpoint in Chunati.

A search of his belongings led to the discovery of 10,000 yaba tablets, he added.

A case has been initiated against him under the Narcotics Control Act at Lohagara Police Station.

He was produced before court in the afternoon, and the judge ordered him into jail custody.

Efforts to reach CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mahmuda Begum were unsuccessful.
