Two university students have been killed after a Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) waste truck rammed their motorcycle in Dhaka’s Demra.

The accident occurred around 4am on Friday in the Konapara area.

The dead have been identified as Gazi Iram Ridwan, 26, and Tahsin Tapu, 25. Iram studied at American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), while Tapu studied at United International University (UIU).

Sub-Inspector Md Rubel said, "The DSCC truck was coming from the direction of (Konapara's) Mini Cox's Bazar, while the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction."

Md Faruk, officer-in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, said that the two were returning home from a wedding event when their vehicle was rammed by the city corporation vehicle in the Konapara area.

The two victims were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 5am, where the doctor-on-duty declared them dead.
