Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has met with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah in New York, with the two leaders discussing ways to deepen bilateral ties in trade, investment, manpower and economic cooperation.
The meeting took place on Friday morning, local time, at Kuwait’s Permanent Mission in New York, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Tarique is in New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. His meeting with the Kuwaiti crown prince had been listed among his bilateral engagements during the visit.
The two leaders exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest, including the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, expansion of trade and investment, and stronger economic cooperation.
Tarique also recalled the role of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in developing relations between the two nations.
He said the relationship built on mutual respect, goodwill and cooperation during their time had broadened over the years.
The prime minister stressed the need to deepen and diversify those ties further for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.
The discussions also covered regional and international issues, with both sides emphasising continued communication, cooperation and coordination on matters of common interest.
Tarique called for more high-level political engagement between Dhaka and Kuwait City, alongside greater cooperation in trade, investment, manpower and other areas with potential for growth.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening existing cooperation between Bangladesh and Kuwait for the benefit of both countries.
