Tarique vows to turn Bangladesh into a $1tn economy by 2034

Priority sectors will receive targeted incentives as the government seeks to draw more investment

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is working to transform Bangladesh into a trillion-dollar economy within eight years.

He said the government remains committed to achieving the milestone by 2034 through targeted budgetary incentives across key priority sectors.

According to the premier, special priority sectors include renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, electronics, digital services, agro-processing, advanced textiles, healthcare, and logistics.

"We are establishing Bangladesh as a major manufacturing hub on the global stage, diversifying our readymade garment sector, and prioritising technology and skills for human resource development," he said at an FDI conference at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre on Thursday.

He added that the nation's future relies on building long-term, credible partnerships rather than merely attracting investment, inviting present business leaders to join that promising trajectory.

"Together, we can build an economy that is resilient, equitable, and inclusive. I invite you all to invest in Bangladesh and unlock new horizons of success," Tarique said.

"Let us move forward together on the path of prosperity, create new jobs, and rebuild the Bangladesh of tomorrow. Let us be partners in this journey towards a prosperous and globally connected Bangladesh," he added.

The daylong international conference and expo was organised by the Foreign Investors' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Before attending the conference session, the prime minister toured stalls and exchanged greetings with representatives of participating institutions.
