The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has again taken to the field on the second day of Eid-ul-Azha to remove waste from sacrificial animals and temporary cattle markets.
On Friday, the city corporation aims to remove 11,776 tonnes of waste.
According to a DSCC media statement, Administrator Md Abdus Salam inspected the ongoing waste removal activities at the temporary sacrificial animal market near the Shahjahanpur Railway Colony in the capital this morning.
He instructed the relevant officials and employees to complete the work as soon as possible.
After the inspection, the DSCC administrator said: “Like the first day of Eid-ul-Azha, the waste removal activities of sacrificial animals and temporary markets are being carried out very vigorously on the second day.
“We are committed to removing all waste quickly to ensure the comfort of city residents.”
The DSCC said a total of 14,814 tonnes of sacrificial waste had been dumped at the Matuail landfill by midnight on Thursday, May 28, the first day of Eid.
Its administrator expressed his hope that the target set for Friday would also be achieved through the coordinated efforts of cleaning workers, transport workers and related departments.
Meanwhile, he issued a stern warning to the lessees regarding the violation of rules at the temporary cattle markets.
In response to a question from journalists, Salam said: "If allegations regarding the expansion of the market outside the designated area or illegally occupying the road are found to be true, strict legal action will be taken against the concerned lessees. If necessary, they will be fined and blacklisted."
Additional manpower, vehicles, containers and cleaning equipment have been deployed in the areas under the jurisdiction of DSCC for the purpose of quick waste removal.
A special monitoring team is also working around the clock to supervise the entire process.
In addition, the DSCC has called on the city residents to dispose of animal waste in designated areas and to sincerely cooperate with the city corporation's cleaning activities.
