Three members of a family have been burnt in a gas-related fire at a residence in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan.

The incident occurred around 6am on Saturday at a house in Dubadia Koraitek, owned by Ali Hossain, 55, said Uttarkhan Police chief Habibur Rahman.

The injured are Ali, his wife Hasna Hena, 45, and their daughter known only as Ankhi, 28.

They were admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Doctor Nasir Uddin told bdnews24.com that Ali suffered 100 percent burns, Hasna 60 percent and Ankhi 15 percent.

Ali is in critical condition.

Police said gas had accumulated in the house due to a leak in a Titas gas line.

“When Hasna Hena lit a flame while cooking, the fire spread instantly,” said officer Habibur.

He added that household items including furniture, quilts, mattresses and pillows were also burnt in the blaze.
