Three people have been killed in seperate road accidents in Dhaka.

Two of them died when an autorickshaw and a motorcycle collided head-on near the Mouchak Flyover, while a policeman was killed when a covered van rammed his motorcycle on the Khilgaon Flyover.

The Mouchak accident occurred around 4:45am on Thursday at the crossing of the flyover adjacent to Mouchak Fortune Market, according to Sub-Inspector Sushanta Kumar Khan of Ramna Police Station.

The motorcycle was coming from the Mogbazar Wireless area and heading towards Rajarbagh, while the autorickshaw was travelling from Shantinagar to Malibagh Abul Hotel.

Autorickshaw driver Nayan Talukdar, 70, and motorcyclist Yasin Arafat Ashik, 21, were critically injured in the collision.

They were later rescued and taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead, SI Sushanta said.

Nayan hails from Kalihati Upazila of Tangail, and he had been living in Dhalpur of Jatrabari. Yasin lived in the Mugda area.

The Khilgaon incident took place around 12am on Thursday, said Khilgaon Police Station chief (OC) Shafiqul Islam.

According to him, the covered van involved in the incident has been seized, but the driver fled the scene.

The victim, 32-year-old Rubel Haque, was serving as a Nayek (corporal) at Rajarbagh Police Lines. He was a member of the police band unit.

He was a native of Uttar Kandapara village in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila.

“While Rubel was riding his motorcycle, he was run over by a covered van, killing him on the spot. The body has been recovered and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.”

OC Shafiqul added that efforts were under way to track down the driver.
