Amid a growing outbreak, two children undergoing treatment at Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal with measles symptoms have died, taking the divisional toll to 12.
Barisal Divisional Health Director Shyamal Krishna Mondal on Thursday said they died in the last 24 hours, while 100 others were admitted to different hospitals.
One of the infants has been identified only as Imam, aged just 5 months, hailing from the district’s Bakerganj Upazila.
The other is 9-month-old Abu Saleh of Amtali Upazila of Barguna, hospitalised on Sunday, a day before Imam.
Both died on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.
According to the official estimates, 196 patients are currently undergoing treatment across the division which logged 1,080 suspected measles cases since Jan 1.
Of those, 827 patients were admitted to hospitals and 52 tested positive for the viral disease.
