Bangladesh PM Tarique offers condolences to Indonesia after devastating earthquake

Bangladesh stands ready to provide all possible assistance and support to Indonesia, the prime minister says

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a devastating earthquake in Indonesia.

In a condolence message to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Saturday, Tarique conveyed his sympathy on behalf of himself and the people of Bangladesh.

“I extend my deepest condolences to you, the Indonesian government and the brotherly people of Indonesia on the devastating earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara,” he said.

“The people of Bangladesh are deeply saddened by the loss of 38 lives and the widespread devastation caused by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake. Bangladesh stands with Indonesia at this difficult time and is ready to provide all possible assistance and cooperation.”

The premier expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of those killed and everyone affected by the disaster.

“I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured and hope the ongoing rescue and relief operations will bring much-needed assistance and relief to the people in distress,” he said.
