The Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs has removed Khagrachhari District Council Chairperson Jiruna Tripura from her post over allegations of corruption and misconduct.

The decision was announced in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary Mangal Chandra Pal on Tuesday afternoon.

On Jul 7 this year, the ministry had ordered her to refrain from all council activities following a number of allegations.

Complaints included disregard for 14 council members, inappropriate behaviour, undermining heads and staff of transferred departments, unilateral decision-making, favouritism, teacher transfer irregularities, blocking contractor bills for bribes, and other corrupt practices.

The ministry opened an investigation after receiving the formal complaint.

Appointed on Nov 7, 2024, Jiruna has faced criticism over her conduct and actions since taking office.
