Two people have been killed and another person critically injured after a truck crashed into a motorcycle in Cumilla’s Laksam Upazila. All of the victims were passengers on the motorcycle.
The accident occurred in Bhaishkopia area of the Cumilla-Noakhali road on Thursday night, according to Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, the chief of Laksam Highway police Station.
The dead have been identified as Tabarak Ullah Malu, 42, and Masud, 28, both from Laksam Upazila.
The victims had gone to take part in a gathering and were returning home by motorcycle when the accident occurred, said OC Mobarak. Their motorcycle collided head-on with the Noakhali-bound truck in Bhaishkopia.
“Two of the motorcycle passengers were killed on the spot. Another passenger with critical injuries has been taken to the Laksam Upazila Health Complex.”
“There was heavy fog on Thursday night. We believe both the truck and the motorcycle were speeding despite the heavy fog, which led to the crash and the loss of life.”
The truck involved in the accident has been seized, but its driver has fled, Mobarak added.
The bodies will be handed over to the victims’ families after legal formalities are complete, the highway police official said.
