Ex-IGP Shahidul, ex-DB chief Harun, 9 others charged with killing 7 after ‘framing them as militants’

The crimes against humanity charges have also been filed against Md Monirul Islam, former chief of the Counterterrorism and Transnational Crimes unit

A charge has been filed against 10 people at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) over the killings of seven people in Gazipur in 2016 after they were allegedly “framed as militants”.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the Prosecution Department of the ICT filed the charge on Tuesday.

The suspects in the case include former police chief AKM Shahidul Islam, Mohammad Javed Patyari, Md Asaduzzaman Mia, Md Monirul Islam (former chief of the Counterterrorism and Transnational Crimes unit), Harun Or Rashid (aka DB Harun) and 10 others.

Tamim said that a formal charge has been filed against 10 people in a case of crimes against humanity for the murder of seven people in Gazipur's Patartek in 2016 after framing them as militants.

Ibrahim, a madrasa student, was among the people killed on the day of the incident. 

Ibrahim's father filed a complaint with the tribunal's investigation agency over the extrajudicial killing and disappearance of his son after the 2024 July Uprising.
