A mild heatwave is blowing over 19 districts across the country, including Dhaka, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) forecasting heavy rainfall in three divisions.
According to the 24-hour forecast by the BMD on Sunday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally winds and lightning are likely to occur in many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions; in some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions; and in one or two places in the Khulna and Barishal divisions.
Along with this, moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
The bulletin further added that a mild heatwave is blowing over the Dhaka, Faridpur, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Chandpur, Lakshmipur and Patuakhali and the Khulna Division.
The forecast says that the temperature across the country may remain unchanged during the day, but may drop slightly at night.
Confirming the heatwave, Meteorologist Md Abdul Hamid told bdnews24.com, "A mild heat wave is blowing over 10 districts in the Khulna Division. In addition, a mild heat wave is prevailing over nine other districts, including Dhaka, and it may continue."
According to the BMD, the highest temperature in the country in the 24 hours to 6am on Sunday was recorded as 37.4°C in Jashore. The highest rainfall in the country was recorded in the Cox's Bazar district at 80mm.
