A couple riding a motorcycle have been killed after being crushed by a bus in Khulna’s Daulatpur.

The crash occurred around 9pm on Tuesday near the Railgate intersection, Daulatpur Police chief Md Shafiqul Islam said, adding that the victims died at the scene.

The dead were identified as Tanvir Hasan Sheikh, 31, and his wife Lamia Begum, 28, residents of Boyra in Khulna city.

Police and locals said a Royal Paribahan bus travelling from Dhaka struck the motorcycle as it was crossing the Railgate intersection from the opposite direction.

The impact left the motorcycle mangled, killing both riders on the spot.

Police later recovered the bodies from the scene.

Officer Shafiqul said the bus had been seized immediately after the crash, but the driver fled. Efforts are under way to track him down.

The bodies have been sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem examination.
