Floodwaters could recede across Sylhet within three days

Kushiara remains above danger level at two points, but river levels are expected to fall in the coming day

Relief may be on the way for flood-hit parts of Sylhet and Sunamganj, although the Kushiara River continues to flow above the danger level at two monitoring stations.

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) on Friday said the river remained above the danger mark at Fenchuganj in Sylhet and Markuli in Sunamganj.

The FFWC said water levels in the Surma and Kushiara had remained steady over the past 24 hours and were likely to fall from the second day before stabilising, easing flooding in nearby low-lying areas within three days.

Elsewhere, the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Padma remained stable, while the Ganges continued to rise.

The centre warned that parts of Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, Sirajganj, Tangail, Naogaon and Natore could see rivers reach warning level within 24 to 48 hours, causing temporary flooding in low-lying areas.

It also forecast rising water levels in several rivers in Chattogram Division over the next day.
