A Dhaka WASA worker has been killed after being run over by a vehicle while working inside a drain in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
The accident occurred around 6:30am on Tuesday in Senpara, in the Mirpur-10 area, Kafrul police said.
The deceased was identified as Shamim, from Paikhand Baradia village in Bera Upazila of Pabna.
He had been working for Dhaka WASA for around 25 years.
Kafrul police chief Saiful Islam said Shamim had entered the drain to carry out maintenance work.
“At one point, he raised his head and was crushed under the wheel of a vehicle. He died at the scene,” the police officer said.
Shamim’s body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination, Saiful said.
Police are working to identify the vehicle and its driver, and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the accident, the officer said.
