Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor of Bangladesh's interim government, has held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, seeking Beijing's support in establishing peace, prosperity and stability for both nations.

The bilateral talks began at 10am local time on Friday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, according to the Chief Advisor's Office.

Earlier, at a press briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka, Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin said that discussions between Xi and Yunus might include the Teesta River project, as well as health, the Rohingya crisis, Global Development Initiative (GDI), and economic cooperation.

Following his meeting with Xi, Yunus attended an "Investment Dialogue" with leading Chinese business figures at The Presidential Hotel Beijing. The event aimed to highlight Bangladesh’s business-friendly environment and attract more Chinese investment.

The chief advisor is also scheduled to join three roundtable discussions focusing on the themes of sustainable infrastructure and energy investment, “Bangladesh 2.0” manufacturing and market opportunities, and social business, youth entrepreneurship and the world of three zeros.

During these sessions, he will engage with CEOs, members of the Social Business Circle, senior executives of prominent Chinese companies, and other business representatives.

Yunus is also expected to visit a high-tech industrial park where he will tour factories for electric vehicles, solar plants, and semiconductor chips.

Later in the day, he will attend a state dinner hosted in his honour by Bangladesh’s ambassador to China.

On Thursday, the chief advisor addressed the Boao Forum for Asia held in Hainan Province, where he called on Asian nations to develop a clear roadmap for building a shared future and ensuring prosperity.

He also spoke out against the long-standing challenges Bangladesh has faced from corruption and illicit financial outflows, urging Asian countries to collaborate on establishing mechanisms to recover and repatriate stolen assets.

On the sidelines of the Boao Forum, Yunus held bilateral talks with Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.

He also met with Qu Dongyu, director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and Wu Xiaoling, former deputy governor of the People’s Bank of China.

Yunus arrived in China on Wednesday on his first state visit, aimed at elevating Bangladesh-China ties through enhanced economic cooperation.

Several agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries are expected to be signed during his four-day visit, along with potential announcements.
