The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against seven people, including Awami League General Secretary and former road transport minister Obaidul Quader, after taking charges of crimes against humanity in attempting to suppress the 2024 July Uprising into cognisance.

A Tribunal-2 bench led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury made the decision on Thursday. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Dec 29.

In addition to Quader, arrest warrants have also been issued against Awami League Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, former state minister for information and broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain and Chhatra League General Secretary Wali Asif Inan.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the complaint in the case was submitted to the registrar of Tribunal-2 on Thursday morning.

The complaint accuses the suspects of murder, incitement and giving orders to suppress the July Uprising.

The trial will begin once the tribunal completes the formalities, indicts the suspects, and begins hearing witness testimony.
