Police have raided the business firm of former lawmaker AKM Selim Osman, who stands accused in several murder cases filed following the July Uprising, looking for him.

A team from the Fatullah Police Station conducted the raid at Wisdom Attires Ltd around 10pm on Monday, confirmed Additional Superintendent of Police Tarek Al Mehedi.

Selim Osman, who was a lawmaker from Narayanganj-5, was not found at his business office.

Rumours about Selim Osman living in Narayanganj and visiting his office prompted the raid, Tarek said.

He said the former MP is hiding in the country.

Selim Osman is a member of the influential Osman family in Narayanganj. He was elected to parliament with a Jatiya Party ticket in a by-election following the death of his elder brother Nasim Osman in 2014.

He was reelected to parliament in 2018 and 2024 from the same constituency. He was the president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).

The Osman family has been hiding since the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5. Selim’s brother AKM Shamin Osman, a former AL lawmaker, has managed to flee with his wife and children.
