The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised the country’s four seaports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as a monsoon low persists over the northwestern Bay of Bengal.
In a bulletin issued by the Storm Warning Centre on Monday morning, Meteorologist Md Abul Kalam Azad said the well‑marked low has intensified into a monsoon depression over Bangladesh’s southwestern and west‑central coastal areas and adjoining northwestern Bay. It may move further northwest, he said.
Under its influence, squally winds are likely to sweep across the maritime ports, the north Bay and adjacent coastal regions.
The ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to continue displaying local cautionary signal No. 3.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Meteorologist Abdul Hamid said the warning was repeated twice in the bulletin to emphasise its seriousness.
“Everyone must follow the department’s instructions during this period,” he added.
