A man has been killed in a clash between two gangs of drug traffickers at the Geneva Camp in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur.

The incident occurred inside the camp around 3:45am on Thursday, said Kazi Rafiq Ahmed, chief of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Police personnel were sent to the scene when the clash was reported, he said. They recovered one person with serious injuries and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Inspector Md Faruk of the hospital’s police outpost said that an individual named Jahid, who had been killed in an attack using a sharp weapon, had been brought to the hospital.

There were several clashes between rival drug gangs vying for power and territory at the Geneva Camp during the political instability in 2024. In response, law enforcers launched a major operation to bring the situation under control.

Police say that many of the drug traffickers detained at the time are now out on bail and are once again engaging in clashes as part of power struggles in the area.
