Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed has refused to comment on reports that Bangladesh is set to spend Tk 270 billion to purchase 20 fighter jets from China.

In response to questions at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Salehuddin said: “I will not comment on this issue.”

The purchase was reported by The Business Standard, which mentioned that the government is buying 20 J-10C multi-role combat aircraft from China.

According to documents from the Armed Forces Division, the estimated price of each aircraft is $60 million, meaning the total cost for 20 jets would amount to $1.2 billion, or approximately Tk 147.6 billion, based on an exchange rate of Tk 123 per US dollar.
