A suspected mugger has died after being accidentally stabbed by an accomplice during an attempted robbery in Dhaka’s Kadamtali.
The incident happened near the Boroitala Bhanga Bridge on Saturday, according to Sajib Kumar Barai, an inspector at Kadamtali Police Station.
Police said three suspected muggers stopped two pedestrians and tried to rob one of them after restraining him.
As the pedestrians shouted for help, one of the suspects allegedly tried to attack the man with a switchblade. The knife instead struck another member of the group who was holding the pedestrian from behind, Sajib said.
The two other suspects fled, leaving the injured man on the road.
Police later took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 5:30am.
The dead man is believed to have been around 35 years old.
Sajib said efforts were under way to identify him.
