Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department chief Asadur Rahman has been attacked and left bleeding outside a private chamber.

He was assaulted around 11:30pm on Monday while getting into a CNG-run autorickshaw after seeing patients at Popular Diagnostic Centre in Shantinagar.

The 55-year-old doctor is being treated at DMCH.

Police have arrested one person over the attack, Paltan Police chief Mostafa Kamal Khan said.

A Popular employee, Rashedul Islam, who took Asadur to the hospital, said four or five men stopped his autorickshaw and attacked him with sharp weapons, injuring his head, eye and nose.

Police said the arrested man claimed the attack stemmed from anger over alleged “wrong treatment” of a patient and that he was the patient’s friend.

The police official said the claim came from the patient’s relatives and the incident required further investigation.
