Police have recovered 10 crude bombs abandoned in the South Dania area of Dhaka’s Jatrabari.
The devices were found in an old plastic bag lying in an alley near the wet market around 6pm on Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesman Additional Deputy Commissioner Niaz Mehedi said in a statement on Monday.
The DMP’s Bomb Disposal Unit was alerted and sent a team to the scene.
The devices were defused at around 10:25pm after the area was secured and necessary safety measures were taken, Mehedi said.
Police are trying to identify those responsible and take legal action against them, he added.
The discovery comes amid a string of crude bomb explosions and arson attacks reported across Dhaka in recent days.
Several crude bombs exploded outside Jatrabari Police Station and at the nearby crossroads on Friday and Saturday, injuring rickshaw drivers, while similar blasts were reported in other areas, including Mohakhali, Agargaon, Moghbazar, Babu Bazar and Rampura.
Detectives later arrested four people over the Jatrabari blasts, including an Awami League leader, and recovered four more unexploded devices from a building in Lalbagh.
