Boy, 13, accused of raping 5-year old girl in northwestern Bangladesh

The child was visiting a neighbour’s house when the crime was allegedly committed

A teenager has been accused of raping a 5-year-old child in Chapainawabganj.

Rezaul Karim, the district superintendent of police, said that the child’s mother has filed a case at the Sadar Police Station on Monday night.

Sadar Police Station chief Matiur Rahman said that while playing on Eid day, the child went to visit the house next door, where the 13-year-old allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Both families reportedly tried to brush the incident under the carpet. On Tuesday, the child was taken to the 250-bed district hospital.

Abdus Samad, the hospital’s resident medical officer, said: “The child is currently under observation. More information will be known after her health check-up on Thursday.”
