Police have arrested four people on suspicion of their involvement in the gang-rape of a ninth-grade schoolgirl and the sexual harassment of another student in Chattogram’s Satkania Upazila.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in a hilly farm area at Sadhurnal under the Sadaha Union.
According to police, the victim and her companion, an eighth-grade student, were attacked while visiting the site.
The arrestees have been identified as Md Syed, 15, Md Rakib, 20, Manik Islam, 20, and Abdur Rahim, 18.
All four are labourers at a local farm and residents of Satkania Upazila.
Ariful Islam Siddiqui, additional superintendent of police (Satkania Circle), told bdnews24.com that the two girls, aged 16 and 15, had gone to the farm for a visit at noon.
As they were returning, seven labourers intercepted them.
They allegedly gang-raped the ninth-grader and molested the other girl.
Upon being alerted by locals, police conducted an overnight raid in the area and apprehended the four suspects.
The father of the primary victim has filed a case at the Satkania Police Station.
"A manhunt is under way to arrest the remaining three suspects involved in the crime," said Ariful.
