State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Mohibbur Rahman says nearly 35,000 homes in 19 districts were destroyed by Cyclone Remal.

Another 115,000 homes were partially damaged by the storm, he said at a press conference at the Secretariat in the aftermath of the severe cyclonic storm on Monday.

“Compared with previous storms, the damage this time is substantially larger. Many areas are still waterlogged. Fish enclosures and trees have been destroyed. We will learn more of the details over time.”

Remal affected 107 Upazilas and 917 unions and municipalities, according to the state minister.

The government has received reports of 10 deaths due to the storm so far, he said.

The victims of the storm died on the way to the shelters, or when walls or houses collapsed, he added.
