Gas supply from two floating LNG terminals off Moheshkhali in Cox's Bazar has once again crossed 1,000 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) after recovering from a fire that disrupted supplies.

The increase has pushed the country’s total gas supply to 2,624mmcfd.

According to data from the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla), supply of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) derived from imported LNG reached 1,015mmcfd at 8pm on Tuesday, while domestic gas fields contributed 1,609mmcfd.

RLNG supply stood at 990mmcfd at midday, edging up to 991mmcfd by 4pm before crossing the 1,000 million mark.

With a combined daily supply capacity of 1,100mmcfd across both terminals, operations were running at approximately 92 percent capacity by 8pm.

A week ago, Prime Minister's Finance and Planning Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir expressed hope that the country's gas supply would normalise "within a few days" after overcoming recent supply deficits.

He noted that against a total national demand of 3,800 mmcfd, current supply stood between 2,600 and 2,700mmcfd -- with 1,600mmcfd sourced domestically and 1,000mmcfd met through imported LNG.

Prior to a fire breaking out at Excelerate Energy’s floating terminal on Jul 21, the two terminals had typically supplied between 1,000 and 1,050mmcfd.

The incident halved supply overnight, but Tuesday's figures signal a return to near pre-incident levels.

The output of 1,015mmcfd from the floating LNG terminals falls just short of Bangladesh's record set in May this year, when daily supply reached 1,076mmcfd -- the highest single-day figure recorded since LNG imports began in 2018.
