Two women have allegedly been robbed outside their home in Mohammadpur upon returning to Dhaka after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
A video of the reported incident around 3am on Saturday has already spread, with police claiming to have identified one of the suspects.
Mohammadpur Police Inspector Rakibuzzaman Rakib said, “The two women came by bus from Thakurgaon and alighted off in Dhaka’s Shyamoli.
“Later, when they took a rickshaw to their house on Nurjahan Road in Mohammadpur, they were targeted by the snatchers.”
The suspects took away the bags, and luggage and mobile phones from the women.
Inspector Rakib said the process of filing a case is under way and efforts are being made to arrest the identified “muggers”.
The viral video shows the women getting off the rickshaw in front of their house.
A man, clad in a lungi and wielding a machete, instantly approached them while the rickshaw-puller stood nearby. He pushed the rickshaw-puller and said something to the women.
The man was assisted by another person wearing pants as they apparently threatened and frisked the women.
