Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has formally adorned the new principal staff officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division and the new director general of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) with rank badges to mark their promotions.

The ceremony was held at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Monday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Lt Gen Mir Mushfiqur Rahman has been appointed PSO of the Armed Forces Division, while Maj Gen Mohammad Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury has taken charge as director general of DGFI.

Army Chief Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Adm M Nazmul Hassan and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan were present at the event.

Lt Gen Mushfiqur, who previously served as general officer commanding of the 24th Infantry Division in Chattogram, was promoted to lieutenant general on Sunday before being appointed PSO. Commissioned into the Infantry Corps in 1991, he earlier served as director general of the Directorate General of Defence Purchase.

In a separate order issued the same day, Brig Gen Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury, who had been serving at Army Headquarters, was promoted to major general and appointed DGFI chief.

Earlier on Monday, the prime minister began office at the Armed Forces Division for the first time. In the allocation of portfolios, he has kept the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Division under his direct supervision.

Additional Press Secretary to the PM Atiqur Rahman Ruman said Tarique arrived at the Armed Forces Division around 9am and was received by the chiefs of the three Armed Forces, with whom he exchanged greetings.
