An official of the Indian High Commission in Chattogram has been found dead inside the mission premises.

The deceased has been identified only as Narendra, 38, who was serving as an assistant protocol officer, police said.

The victim hailed from Chandigarh, India.

His body was found on Tuesday inside the office premises on Zakir Hossain Road in the port city’s Khulshi area.

Police suspect he died of a cardiac arrest.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner for Public Relations Aminur Rashid told bdnews24.com that the body was recovered from in front of the bathroom door of a data entry room on the second floor of the old visa centre building.

“We primarily suspect that the official died while going to the bathroom at some point during the night,” he said.

As the deceased was a foreign national, police completed the necessary formalities before sending the body to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for a postmortem, the officer added.
