Three men have been killed and two others critically injured after three motorcycles collided head-on in Habiganj's Azmiriganj Upazila.
The crash occurred around 6:30pm on Thursday near the Jalsukha Bridge on the under-construction Azmiriganj-Shalla regional highway, said Azmiriganj Police chief Akbar Hossain
The dead were identified only as Antar, 25, from Azmiriganj Upazila; Tanvir, from Baniachang; and Abidul Laskar, 32, from the same area.
The injured are Shahidul Islam Bachchu, 35, of Shekhergaon village in Chunarughat Upazila, and Mizan Mia, 27, of Gochhapara village.
Both injured men work for the non-governmental development organisation BURO Bangladesh.
They were initially taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital before being transferred in critical condition to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to police and witnesses, the three motorcycles were travelling at high speed when they collided head-on.
One of the riders died at the scene, while four others suffered serious injuries.
The injured were rescued and taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared two more victims dead.
Akbar said one person died at the scene and two others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to hospital.
