Bangladesh has been shaken by two moderate earthquakes within 17 minutes near the Myanmar border.

On Tuesday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 5.9-magnitude tremor at 9:33pm local time, followed by a 5.2-magnitude quake at 9:51pm, originating 67.8 km below the surface.

Earlier, at 4:36am, Satkhira in the southwest was shaken by a 4.1-magnitude tremor, according to the earthquake monitoring centre.

Assistant meteorologist Farzana Sultana said the early-morning quake was light, causing minimal impact.

The twin night tremors were felt across multiple districts, prompting brief panic but no immediate reports of damage.
