Maksud, who is also a local Awami League leader, was produced in a Feni court on Friday after a PBI team arrested the local leader of the ruling Awami League in Dhaka’s Fakirapool area on Thursday night.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Tania Islam will hear on Monday the PBI petition for remand of Maksud, said Md Shah Alam, who is investigating the case.

Nusrat, 18, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night, five days after she was set on fire on the roof of Sonagazi Senior Islamia Fazil Madrasa by suspected followers of principal SM Siraj-ud-Daula.

Siraj, who was already in jail, allegedly burnt her to death with the help of his followers after she refused to drop sexual abuse charges against him.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had already ordered stern action against those involved with the crimes committed against the teenager. The High Court has said it will intervene if any negligence is found in the investigation into the death of Nusrat.

As many as 10 people, including Siraj and Maksud, have been arrested over the murder of Nusrat.
