Nusrat wrote the story of ‘sexual abuse by principal’ in her exercise book

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, the girl who has been killed allegedly in reprisal for charging the principal of her madrasa in Feni with sexual abuse, had described in an exercise book how “she had been molested”.

Police have kept the exercise book as evidence in a case started over an arson attack that eventually led to her death on Wednesday night.

Nusrat had also lamented some of her peers’ support for the principal and main suspect, SM Siraj-ud-Daula, in two pages of the exercise book.

Addressing her classmates, she asked: “How do you demand Siraj-ud-Daula’s freedom even after knowing everything about him? Don’t you know what happened on that day in the class – on what parts of my body he placed his hand and what other parts he wanted to touch?”

“He told me not to hide my feelings. ‘Don’t you feel good when you romance boys? What can they give you?’ he asked me and said he would give me question papers during exams,” she wrote.

Sonagazi Model Police Station Inspector Kamal Hosain told bdnews24.com they found the writing on a page of an exercise book of Nusrat on Tuesday.

A similar writing was found on another page of the exercise book, he said.

“It will come in handy in the case initiated by Nusrat’s brother. Police will check the credibility of the writings. We will question those named here,” the inspector added.

Describing the arson attack to police, Nusrat had said some people tricked her onto the roof of the Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa and set fire to her by pouring kerosene on her body when she went to the institution to sit Alim exams, equivalent to HSC, last Saturday.

The assailants, who included burqa-clad women, carried out the attack when she had refused to withdraw the charges against Siraj, Nusrat said.

Siraj had already been in jail in a case initiated by Nustrat’s mother over alleged sexual harassment.

Police have arrested 10 people, including Siraj, in the case over the attack.
