Her call came on Tuesday morning at a national rally for children and youth at the Bangbandhu National Stadium on the occasion of Independence Day.

“Some of today’s children will become prime ministers. Some will hold big jobs, and advance the country. So we want to raise our children accordingly. Their work will be inspired by patriotism and love for the nation,” said the prime minister.

“You will have to take Bangladesh forward. It is you who will build tomorrow’s Bangladesh. Inshallah, Bangladesh will become a peaceful and prosperous country in South Asia,” said Hasina addressing the rally at the Bangbandhu National Stadium.

She also told the students to listen to their parents and teachers, to obey rules and regulations, and to live a good life.

She urged teachers and guardians to inform children about the evils of drugs, terrorism and militancy

“Children have to be protected from these things. Parents and guardians must always keep an eye on the whereabouts of their children, who they are spending time with and how they are spending that time. Everyone must be attentive to their studies and their thinking and talent should develop through sports, physical training, and participation in various competitions,” said Hasina.

She also highlighted the various initiatives taken by the present government for children in her speech.

“We are working with the aim of keeping our children in tune with the era so that they can go advance. Today's child will be the guides for tomorrow’s Bangladesh,” she said.

She awarded the winners of a national anthem singing contest at the event. She later observed the military parade and the displays put on by students.
