The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday on Gopalganj Sadar Upazila’s Bhennabari Rail Crossing, said Abdul Barek, the superintendent of Gopalganj Sadar Police.

Two of the deceased have been identified as the 25-year-old Raju Sikdar and the 19-year-old Tanvir Chowdhury Rocky.

The Tungipara Express train was headed to Gopalganj from Rajshahi when it hit the motorcycle on the Bhennabari level crossing on the Gopalganj-Borni road, said SI Barek.

“The crossing is unmanned. The signal bar had not been lowered as the train approached the crossing.”

“We haven’t found any eyewitnesses to the incident. But it appears that the three youths riding the motorcycle were crossing the rail track when the train rammed into them. They died on the spot.”

Informed of the incident around 6 am, the police and fire service teams rushed to the scene and found the crumpled motorcycle nearly 50 yards away from the crossing. The bodies were sent to the Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue.
