AL leader murdered in Sunamganj, 3 suspects detained

An Awami League leader has been stabbed to death in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila. The police have detained three suspects in connection with the murder.

Superintendent of Police Md Barkatullah Khan said that police recovered the body of 38-year-old Joynal Ahmed on Tuesday morning from Jahangirnagar Union’s Dholaipar area. 

Joynal was the Awami League’s general secretary for the Jahangirnagar Union unit.

The detainees are Shahin Shah, Selim and Rabbi. Police did not provide further details on the suspects.

Muksed Ali, president of Awami League’s Jahangirnagar Union wing, said the locals informed him after discovering the body of Joynal lying next to a school in the village. The police recovered the body after he went to the spot and notified them.

Stab wounds were found on the body, the police superintendent told reporters. But he could not immediately confirm the cause of the murder.  

The police officer said the three detained suspects were being interrogated at the police station. 

The body has been sent to the Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
